Mission statement
The Center for Trauma & Injury Prevention Research is committed to risk mitigation and the reduction of traumatic injury and addiction through multidisciplinary research; the translation of research into policy and practice and by working in close partnership with communities and serving as a regional and national resource.
About CTIPR
The UC Irvine School of Medicine Center for Trauma & Injury Prevention Research (CTIPR) is dedicated to creating a healthier and safer community, state and nation.
Most unintentional injuries and deaths, such as those that result from drinking and driving or not using a seat belt, are preventable. The goal of our program is to identify and eliminate the causes of preventable injury, which include unsafe behaviors, conditions and environments.
CTIPR was created in 2004 within the Department of Emergency Medicine by Dr. Federico Vaca; Diane Winn, RN, MPH; and Dr. Craig Anderson.
Our emphasis includes:
- Conducting multidisciplinary research
- Translating research into policy and practice
- Serving as a regional and national resource
- Working in close partnership with communities
Our faculty and staff includes researchers experienced in the fields of epidemiology, traffic safety, program development and health policy. Our funding includes grants from professional medical organizations, corporate entities and state and federal agencies.
The center’s faculty associates represent the departments of emergency medicine, surgery, pediatrics, family medicine and the graduate schools of social ecology, social sciences and business.
