The RUVOICE project seeks to improve pedestrian safety by democratizing traffic safety resource allocation. Local road users often notice risks before incidents occur, and this project ensures their concerns are heard and addressed appropriately. A user-friendly website will invite the community members to report hazards, such as dangerous crossings or poor lighting. These reports are reviewed, validated, and shared with traffic authorities for action. By leveraging established connections with these authorities, RUVOICE will bridge the gap between everyday road users’ concerns and policy makers. It empowers road users to identify, analyze, and report unsafe roads and crossings, ensuring everyone has a voice in enhancing community safety.
Outreach efforts to schools, libraries, and universities will engage a diverse audience.
The program focuses on improving safety in Orange County while serving as a scalable model for other communities. With plans for future expansion, it represents a collaborative and community-driven approach to traffic safety.
Funding for this program is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and runs through September 2025.
